Crazy for Spring Wreaths

Hello again! I just wanted to share my spring wreaths. I'm addicted to making them. I wish I had more doors so that I could hang more wreaths. Maybe I'll start hanging them on all my interior doors too!?

Once again, I don't have step-by-step photos or tutorials for you. But they're very simple. Both of them started out as straw wreaths. One was from the dollar store, and the other one was from the thrift store. I left the plastic wrap on both of them and just wound a bunch of yarn around them. You can be really OCD if you want and try to line up the yarn perfectly as you wrap it. I tried that at first, but quickly switched to the more haphazard approach of just winding the heck out of it. It's a lot easier, and I kind of like the added texture of the uneven wrapping. That's what I keep telling myself, at least.

Then I added the embellishments. The top one has a branch from my yard (I've been stockpiling branches for awhile now). I ripped a few blossoms off of a stem of flowers from the dollar store and hot glued them on. Then I added book page rosettes, following this tutorial at Under the Table and Dreaming (although I just cut the spirals without drawing them first. I'm too impatient that way.) I made the bird's nest with some jute string from the dollar store and a boatload of Mod Podge. I covered a small bowl with plastic wrap, soaked the string in the Mod Podge, and wrapped it around and around the bowl. Then I let it dry overnight. It was messy as heck, but it turned out cute, I think. (In fact, I made a few more that you'll see in future posts.) I spray painted a few eggs from Hobby Lobby, glued everything together, added a ribbon, and hung it up. I love it!

The bottom wreath has a bunch of felt flowers, using basically the same method as the book page flowers. Some of them are just with one color of felt, and some of them have two layers of different colors. The birdhouse came from the dollar zone at Target (oh, Target, how I love thee). It was a garden stake, but I just broke off the stick on the bottom and sanded it a little to smooth it out. I used a bunch of hot glue to stick it on the wreath. Then I tied on another ribbon and hung it up.

Yay for bright, colorful wreaths to greet me at the door!

Until next time,

Megan
